Hi, I’m Brennah.

The Journey of The Commune-ity Zine

The Journey of The Commune-ity Zine

From an Eclipse Retreat to a Magazine Dream: The Journey of The Commune-ity Zine

It all began on a crisp autumn day in the woods, during an eclipse retreat at the magical Wandering Path. We were a bunch of dreamers, not expecting to witness the eclipse because of the cloud cover and other factors. Yet, as the moments unfolded, we found ourselves mesmerized, watching the entire eclipse with our naked eyes. It was a rare, breathtaking experience. I think we all felt held by something much bigger than us. Our conversations drifted to dreams—both personal and collective.

From that retreat, the three Commune-ity collaborators emerged, but the journey eventually distilled to two: Chancee Terry and me, Brennah. A heartfelt shoutout goes to Tamara Lynn, whose spirit and support were integral to this vision.

Fast forward to May 2024 and the dream started to take shape with the launch of our events-focused website. By July, our calendar was brimming with local events, a testament to the vibrant community we aim to celebrate.

I was totally inspired by some intriguing samples I had ordered from Newspaper Club, a remarkable printing company. I realized as I looked at them that I have wanted to start a magazine for like ten years, since I was in graphic design school, and it’s finally time.

Our vision for The Commune-ity Zine is to feature at least three artists per issue, spotlighting the rich talent in Pensacola and its surrounding areas. This project is powered by our advertising partners and generous donations. We are printing using 100% solar power, thanks to Newspaper Club’s eco-friendly practices and I love that.

Chancee and I are thrilled to invite you to our launch party on September 22nd. It will be from 11 AM to 2 PM, at Emerald Coast Yoga and Expressive Arts. The event will be more than just a celebration; it will be a gathering of community spirit.

There will be a silent auction and raffle to support a good cause: one student's journey. Donations for the silent auction or raffle basket are still welcome until September 20th, and proceeds will fund a scholarship for a student pursuing art or communication in college.

Before August 1st, we are also seeking advertisers to join us in this journey. Our hearts overflow with infinite love and gratitude for the incredible individuals who have already donated, subscribed, and supported us.

The Commune-ity Zine is free, and you can pick up a copy at the launch party or at several local businesses in Pensacola:

  • Pacific Kava,

  • Emerald Coast Yoga and Expressive Arts,

  • Wild Hare Wellness,

  • The Will Well,

  • The Gordon Community Arts Center,

  • and more locations coming soon.

Join us as we celebrate the spirit of community, creativity, and connection. Let’s make something beautiful together. #ittakesyou
